2DS Redesign by TheCongressman1 2DS Redesign by TheCongressman1
It's that time again, folks. Nintendo announced a new system: The Nintendo 2DS. This is a system that plays 3DS games without any 3D technology. It was also revealed that the two screens are actually one big screen covered by plastic. This is due to cost saving measures.

My idea is that Nintendo should remove the plastic barriers and utilize the entire screen. My redesign on the 2DS comes with a full screen version of the OS. Web browser, Mii plaza, etc. Developers then have the opportunity of proving optional features in their 3DS games. No games will be developed specifically for the 2DS. However, Apps can be developed for the system to be downloaded on the eShop.

It would be nice if this was the concept for a gamepad to a new Wii U successor.

I quite like this concept, and after taking so many apart and repairing them, I see no reason why this could not be achieved IRL
I'd be happy to do a video on this if you have a higher rez image of this that I could use in it.

If your interested in things 2DS related, check out the blog and youtube channel

That would be great actually. I've been trying to get a straight answer from someone that has performed a teardown of the system. Does the 2DS screen have a touch receptor the same size as the entire screen, or is it a smaller receptor only meant for the bottom section?

I'd love to hear more about the system, so an in depth video would be great. I could upload a higher resolution image sometime tonight or tomorrow.

No problem
I've not only taken the 2DS apart, but I have an in depth tutorial on how to take it apart properly for anyone that is interested =)

Drop me a message when you have the high rez image up (1920x1080 or better would be preferred), and I'll put something together that will hopefully answer all your questions!

I've uploaded the image in 1920x1080, however some of the assets I used at that time were slightly lower resolution so it may not be perfectly sharp as I would like. It should work fine for youtube however.

I would ask that you link the deviation page on your video description as credit.

I hope to see your video soon!

Yeh don't worry we wouldn't short change anyone here at Team Banana =)

I'll let you know when the video is finished, and if you would care to share it in any relevant avenues, that would be most agreeable

No problem Nintendo should at least redesign this from you without making it so generic that I'm not happy with but after showing what the 2ds does I'm starting to like it.

I wonder how many people will take apart their 2DS to get rid of the barriers or to see if its really is just one screen.

typo fifth word in change to it. Maybe nintendo could just design a skin/sleeve to protect the screen, which could came off.

I would really like in to be one big screen without the plastic to be across, i hope they change it before launch. Your design is very nice! Thanks!

I think this would be a good design for Nintendo's next console, perhaps "NinTablet". Nintendo DS and DSadvance (my nickname for 3DS games) played on it would have the option of switching the touch screen to be on the top or bottom. Also the Start and Select buttons will be moved to the left, while the XYAB buttons will be moved down to be right across from the D-Pad, with a second circle pad where the XYAB buttons were. Also, triggers will be on the back of the console.
